I had an email from the rector of my former parish. I helped put the website there together and I enjoy keeping it up to date, with the pew sheet and sermon each week. It only takes about 10 minutes to up load them. She said a young man in the parish has offered to take over the web site.
Of course I am absolutely delighted. This is just the kind of thing that should be happening. It keeps someone else involved. It may only be only a matter of minutes a week, but there are things I would do to neaten and update the website if I had time, and one less responsibility at a busy time is great.
On the other hand there are concerns. I am handing over my baby. What if he just wants to put some flashy things on to show off and then he loses interest? And this is an amazing coincidence that it should happen just at this time when it is the topic of my study. Also of the 30 something Parishes in the Diocese, from what I understand, the one I maintain is the only one that is updated so regularly. How extraordinary that there should be someone offering to take it over when there are just so many others in need.
What an exciting challenge.
Will you be able to liaise? It could be a great opportunity to set up a website committee (of 2! at this stage) in a two heads are better than one sort of way. Even in the smallest most informal way.
